Americano AbroadA year abroad that far exceeded the author's imagination traveling throughout Western Europe working in a convent in Nigeria Greek island hopping and finally settling down in Eastern Europe This memoir is a collection of. I love the way this author writes All the stories are so obviously based on real people and events I never got the feeling that anything was being manipulated or contrived in order to get a laugh Indeed there is no side splitting humour here but the use or misuse of language and the interaction of the storyteller and the various characters he meets on his travels constantly amuses the reader The book is a simple collection of travel stories As a reader I laughed and learned a little Italian Spanish Greek and Bulgarian and was intrigued with the ways and culture of Nigerians I especially enjoyed learning about the very unusual behaviour of Solomon Ankapa in Nigeria The book describes many strange characters but non so strange as Solomon Carrillo has a plain unpretentious writing style that makes for easy reading He describes the actual and the ordinary and then presents his take on the activity or the personality which is always funny I suspect he is a bit of a psychologist but he never mentions this I thoroughly enjoyed this very entertaining book
