EBOOK Ò Voodoo Plague Book 1 æ Dirk Patton

Voodoo Plague Book 1John Chase has just arrived in Atlanta on a business trip when America experiences the worst attacks in history Nuclear bombs destroy c Oh my god there are six books in this series? No way Alright here's a review I made it 60 pages into the book before I had to stop The book is written in first person perspective with one chapter written about a secondary character written in some form of limited omniscient third person The action starts out real soon like 10 or 20 pages in and is competently written My main problem is with the characters and the writing around the characters The main character is Rambo able to get six headshots with six bullets on these not really zombies but pretty much zombies The first real person the protagonist encounters is a woman wearing only a g string and running away from some zombies and is of course a stripper who is paying her way through medical school Sufficiently sexualized but she's brainy so it's not really objectifying Who knows maybe over the course of six books the characters develop very deep motivations and relationships After we meet this woman we get a chapter of background depicting her escape from the strip club during the initial zombie outbreak Hooray strippers But the character is inconsistently written as incredibly competent and incredibly weak which is a stark contrast to the ultra capable male protagonistI gave up in the middle of the first action seuence Under the influence of zombification apparently the men become super strong lumbering idiots and the women become highly agile ruthless predators This leads the main protagonist the narrator to mentally note I was sure that women had just become what I always thought they were The most dangerous members of the human race An editor should have replaced that period with a colon but that's a minor uibble That's when I said Life is short books are important I'm skipping the rest of this I've read some pretty gross sexist stuff I'm thinking of Robert Heinlein Ayn Rand and Harlan Ellison in particular but those authors were 1 writing in a different temporal cultural context and 2 making deep observations about humanity either through or in spite of their apparent sexism I'm not going to read a lightweight thriller that is marinated in this bullshitI'm really not usually this sensitive to sexism and gender stereotyping perhaps I am becoming sensitive to it and perhaps that's a good thing but I just couldn't give this a pass Two stars really 15 stars for competent and engaging action seuences
