I was wrong when I said of Ben Lerner’s 1004 that it took “self reflexiveness to its summit its apotheosis and will possibly bring an end to it At least one wonders where it will go from here” In fact it had already gone another step further in Belgium than a year before Lerner’s novel came out but it didn't come out in English – and only in the UK – until a few months agoThis is a mobius strip of a novel mature than Lerner’s and much less tongue in cheek or the tongue is in there deeply It also seems to send a serious message that ordinary life is important than literature even though literature is itself amazing Post Mortem which can only be understood post mortem has three sections each of them very different My favorite was the third person narration of the first section The shift to the second section was remarkable and it is also a wonderful piece The unfocused first person narration of the third section worked less well for me but it’s short and does the trick I did not enjoy this novel nearly as much as I did 1004 but I admire it and I’m glad I got a hold of it it might be coming out in the US in August; it’s not clear
