A timely intervention on climate change from the internationally acclaimed scientist and author of the hugely influential The Weather MakersHow close is the great climate crisis Can our desire to overcome it drive humanity's next great waves of positive technological economic and social revolution or will we be plunged into the dystopian collapses and terrors of civilisations pastThis book describes in plain terms our climate p It's been awhile since I read The Weather Makers How Man Is Changing the Climate and What It Means for Life on Earth Since that time technology has changed and improved but the crisis we are facing has intensified Why is it we seem set on ignoring the facts before us Ignorance is bliss perhapsThe first half or so of this new book is an update on the situation with where the planet is at now Deeply scary stuff Makes me want to go hide in the corner and rock But the book isn't all doom and gloom The second half ish of the book walks the reader through some of the new technologies and ideas being developed that may yet save us Flannery speaks of governments who have been proactive in exploring and exploiting alternate electricity options such as solar Go Germany By contrast Australia is a backward embarrassment Hopefully the new PM will have a little interest in meaningfully addressing climate change rather than just claiming it is utter crap like his predecessor I'm not sure I found this book as earth shattering as The Weather Makers How Man Is Changing the Climate and What It Means for Life on Earth however this book does give hope Still time is a ticking and we have an almost insurmountable task ahead Can we do it In Flannery's words It really is over to you Every one of you We can now see the finishing line Whether we win the race for a better future is your choice Should be reuired reading for all
